My Wishlist for iOS 5
1. No more “Connect to iTunes” bullshit. I want to be able to type in a MobileMe name (see #5 below) and password and have all my contacts, calendars, and, if possible, settings and call/text history synced OTA. If I buy an iPad or iPhone or iPod touch, I want it to be my iPad/iPhone/iPod touch in a few minutes and a few taps, rather than an hour of restoring and syncing.
2. Some sort of media sharing, like AirPlay, but not limited to your home network. I wanna be able to stream all my shit over 3G data or from a friend’s house.
3. Some sort of widget engine, either on the main Springboard, or as a secondary screen you swipe to. This “app, home screen, app, home screen, quick-switch, app” routine of is getting old for just getting small bits of info, like the weather or whatever calendar entry is up next.
4. Barring that, dynamic app icons, such as weather apps showing what the weather is like in your pre-set location, or an IM app changing color/icon to indicate your status.
5. A free MobileMe option. I don’t even care if the free option is just contact/calendar/mail syncing, and some trivial amount of storage, like 2GB or 5GB. You can keep the Find My Phone, 20GB iDisk and web hosting for the premium option. And even then, the pricier option should NOT be $100/year. That’s highway robbery.
6. Not AS big, in my mind, as the others, but I want to be able to sync my music, videos, etc. over WiFi. I don’t want to have to plug it in, wait for it to be recognized, then wait for all my stuff to sync while I remain tethered to my desk.
I admit it, I’m a total iGeek.
